Today the 2019 Global Peace Index was released and revealed that Chile is 27th in the world and first in Latin America.
The Institute of Economy and Peace, responsible for preparing the report, said that the average level of world peace has improved for the first time in five years, although the planet is still less peaceful than a decade ago. "The average level of peace is deteriorating by almost four percent since 2008," they said.
The list is made up of 163 countries. Other South American nations are Uruguay (34 °), Ecuador (71 °), Argentina (75 °), Peru (80 °), Bolivia (85 °), Paraguay (88 °), Brazil (116 °), Colombia (| 43 °) and Venezuela (144 °).
Iceland leads the ranking, followed by New Zealand and Portugal. The last place is occupied by Afghanistan.
