Macron postpones scheduled visit to Serbia because of events in France

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said after a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that he had asked to postpone his scheduled visit to Serbia for several weeks.

Macron was scheduled to arrive in Serbia on Wednesday for a two-day visit to discuss relations between Belgrade and Kosovo and to commemorate soldiers killed during World War I, the centenary of which ended last month.

"President Macron has asked to postpone his visit to Serbia for several weeks because of the situation in his country," Vučić told reporters.

Macron is seeking to contain protests that have raged in France over rising living costs and triggered widespread riots in the capital Paris earlier this week.
